This page is a plain summary of how Talk it Out handles safety and your information, for the people who use it and for organisations thinking about offering it. The full detail is in our privacy policy.

If you need help right now

Talk it Out is not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about ending your life, please contact one of these now:

  • UK: call 999 in an emergency. Samaritans, free, any time: 116 123. Shout, by text: text SHOUT to 85258.
  • US: call 911 in an emergency. Call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
  • Anywhere else: find a helpline near you at befrienders.org.

What Talk it Out is — and is not

Talk it Out is an app for talking things through with an AI companion, whenever you need to. It is not a medical service or a crisis service, and it does not diagnose or treat anything.

  • The replies come from an AI. No person reads along as you talk.
  • If a message mentions suicide, the app shows a message saying help is available, with a link to crisis lines worldwide.

Where your information lives

  • Your conversations and journal entries are stored in Google Cloud's European region.
  • The AI's replies are generated by OpenAI. Under OpenAI's terms for its API, what we send is not used to train its models.
  • Information is encrypted in transit, and encrypted at rest. Our infrastructure runs on Google Cloud, which holds ISO/IEC 27001 certification and SOC 2 reports — those are Google's certifications for its infrastructure, not certifications of Talk it Out.

Who can see your conversations

  • We never sell your conversations or use them for advertising.
  • There is no advertising in the app.
  • Your conversations are not used to train AI models.
  • An organisation that gives its members access to Talk it Out cannot read anyone's conversations.

You are in control

  • You do not need to use your real name.
  • You can delete your account and everything in it from Settings in the app, or through our data removal page.
  • Talk it Out is for people aged 13 and over.

For organisations

We can give the people you support free access through redeemable codes. Talk it Out is provided by Camino TC Ltd (company number 14583296), a UK company registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ZB588953). To talk about it, email hello@talkitoutclub.com.
